Rumor & Roster

I'll dig in and get more details on these topics in the near future, but in the meantime here are some Gannon Hoops tidbits I thought you'd find interesting:

* This isn't on the Gannon website, but I've been told that on Nov. 4 Gannon will have an exhibition game vs. Division I Canisius. That's cool, but here's the kicker: the game will be played at the Hammermill Center. A DI going on the road to a DII? Win or lose, that would be a tremendous way to tip-off the season.

* I've heard that highly touted recruit Kyle Servance was injured in the off season and won't play for the Knights this year. He's not even enrolled at Gannon but could still attend GU next year. Too bad -- for the kid and for us. Servance ranked in the NJCAA top 10 in both assists and three-point percentage last year. I'm thinking that leaves the point guard battle to Steve Piotrowicz and Anthony Clagett.

* The 2010-11 Gannon roster is now online with no more changes planned. (Insert sarcastic, cynical comment here). Three names we haven't heard much about are listed: Mercyhurst Prep grad John Eisenman, sophomore transfer Clinton Springer-Williams, and junior transfer Alvin Tucker. Again, I'll dig up some more details on these guys, but in the meantime enjoy this story on Springer-Williams courtesy of Gannon Hoops follower JRD.

  1. The Brock website shows that Springer-Williams averaged 21 per game last year on an 8-14 team, and not much else.

I also noticed another name, Darrell Blanton, that wasn't previously announced. Googling his name revelaed that he's originally from Euclid, Ohio, played one year at a Kansas juco, another at a Chicago area juco, and was going to walk on at Akron if his grades sufficed(article actually says that).

I continue to hear that some of these players may be redshirted, but that's something we heard last year, too.

  2. What about Coach Church not being listed on the team's web page?

  3. BUBBFWLR: Coach Church is listed on the Gannon Athletic Dept. Directory and the PR on his hire is still live on the GU website. I'm guessing him not being listed on the roster is just an oversight. That's just speculation on my part.

Gannon74: I'll look into Blanton, too. Oversight on my part not to include him on the "guys we don't know about" list. Geez, do I have some research to do!

  4. One other thing, y'all. If it IS true that Gannon is hosting Canisius in a scrimmage, it's pretty unlikely that the event will be open to the public. Coaches (and Coach Reilly is one who feels this way)typically prefer to keep those scrimmages closed so they can "properly correct" any errors made by their charges. Just sayin'

Our first look at this year's Knights will probably be, as it was last year, the Maroon-Gold Scrimmage, whenever that is.
