Gannon Seniors Say "Bye Bye Bye"

Big thanks to gannonfaithful for this farewell video from the Gannon women's basketball seniors. Take 3 minutes to watch it -- guaranteed it's worth the time. The production quality is surprisingly high and the creativity is tremendous. The Antlers scene near the 2:45 mark is hilarious to any Gannon alum, especially ex-athletes.

Video Update #1: A source close to the women's team tells me that their video was shown at the team banquet. The seniors sneaked in the funny scenes to surprise Coach Wright and everyone else in attendance. Good stuff.

Video Update #2: I've heard that players affiliated with the Gannon men's program are working on videos of their own. They haven't shot any footage yet, but they selected their songs.
* Steve Piotrowicz, Tanner Furno, Denard Crouch, and Travis Brannen selected this song. (I double-dare you to watch all 10 minutes. I couldn't.)
* Isaac Reid and Jerrell Sanders have chosen this song for their video. There are rumors that George Johnson, Mook Bouldes, Anthony Simmons, and James Bryant will be joining them for the video shoot.

  1. That is what college athletics is all about. Great basketball players, great students and even better people. We are going to miss them and all the thrills they provided us.

  2. Jim - Love the idea of the first for the returning players. However, I don't think the second song is the best choice for them.

"Bye Bye Bye" (girls video) could be a great one for Sanders and Reid

Here are some that they could change the wording..

"Too Sexy" (ex- I'm too sexy for my team, too sexy for my team)
"I Think I'll Quit Playing Today" (originally "I Think I'll Quit Drinking Today")
    "I Get Gone"
    "My History is a Mystery"

And a song that the whole team from last year could chip in for...
    "Starting Over Again...Again"

  4. Great video. Clever and thoughtful. It just cements the fact of how fortunate we were to have been able to watch these five players over the past four (and some five) years and that we'll never have a team like this again. They'll be missed and never forgotten.

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. I wish Gannon would keep everyone up-to-date with signees; mens and womens. On the PSAC site, Gannon men have no one listed and the women only have the 2 that we already know about (and we know that both teams have a lot of recruiting to do!!)

On a related yet different note: I see that the Patterson sisters from (Strong Vincent?) are going to Edinboro.. that's a good pickup for the Lady Scots. Also, on top of Rickard, Mercyhurst men have two more recruits. I did a little research and they both seem to be solid. The one listed on the bottom (from AZ) seems he could be an immediate impact player.

  6. Also the Edinboro men signed Vincent's Courtney Harden Pulliam, and 6'9 Bryan Theriot from Berea Ohio.

From what I heard on the Sports Blitz last evening, Coach Reilly is expected to announce some signings within the next couple of weeks. They are waiting on some paperwork.

  8. THE ONE KID GOING TO MERCYHURST IS FROM A FIFTH YEAR SCHOLL IN ARIZONA. INTERESTING THAT THE COACH FOR THE FIFTH YEAR SCHOOL IS BOBBY BOSSMAN. WONDER WHY HE WOULD SEND AKID TO THE HURST AND NOT GANNON.

  9. I don't find this anything to wonder about. There are any number of possible reasons.

Maybe Bobby didn't think the player was good enough or too good. Maybe Bobby didn't thoroughly enjoy his experiences at GU (Lord knows he had his share of tribulations here) and didn't want the player to go through the same thing. Maybe he offered the player to GU but Coach Reilly didn't like something about the player or didn't need any more players at his position. Maybe the player didn't like Coach Reilly or vice versa. Maybe GU didn't have his major. Maybe he doesn't like maroon and gold. Maybe he wanted number 13 or number 45 (Sorry).

Bottom line is: I don't think it would be realistic to expect that every player that plays for a coach with a Gannon connection is going to end up at GU. As we found out big-time this year, understanding players and recruiting players is a complicated business these days.

  10. This is comical for Manchel however. Does anyone remember when Manchel had the nice, nasty article in the paper about how Gannon recruits one-year players (referring to Mosley) and Manchel doesn't do that. How many "one year players" has he now recruited? Chaney, Cornelius, this new kid... I'm sure more.

    What's a Laker?... a Hypocrite!

  11. Coachcorey3: This new kid is coming in as a freshman. I do agree with you about Manchel's comment. Like they say " be careful what you say some day it can come back and bite you"

  12. Ohhh, I misread your statement Bob. I read it as if the kid had already played 4 years and was playing his "graduate" year at Mercyhurst (like the Cornelius did last year with the Lakers).

    Thank you for the correction.

  13. Best wishes to Lady Knights assistant coach Kate Glusko who was named today as the head coach at Francis Marion college in South Carolina.

  14. This is trouble. I heard that Glusko is the brains behind the whole operation and the head recruiter. They'd have finished 1-37 without her. Cleve is just a figurehead whose job it is to look good, smile, and throw in a profound saying or two. :-)

Just kidding, of course. Too much sun this weekend. Congrats and best of luck to Kate G. FMU got a good one.
